This is significant how America is racist towards others who look different. The story’s main issue focuses on the main character’s resentment towards his mother’s Asian heritage because he felt like it did not conform to the American way of life. Jack as a young, struggled in his school because he looked Chinese. Jack even rebels with his mother regarding this and he is not proud of his mother and disappears when young. Life would be more complicated for jack when he grows older as he is left with his mother’s heritage. He continuously tries not to adapt to his mother’s culture. He finds it difficult to fit in with other children as he looks different.
