I have chosen to read the material titled as “Why was everyone talking about emotional labor in 2018” by Sophie Wilkinson. I came to know about the word “emotional labor.” Emotional labor may mean a lot of different things to different individuals. Simply put, it's when someone feels compelled to suppress their own feelings. The word was coined by American sociologist Arlie Hochschild in her book The Managed Heart, published in 1983 (Wilkinson, 2018). Arlie defined emotional labor at the time as the need to "induce or repress emotions in order to maintain the outward face that fosters the correct frame of mind in others."
