The topic of Identity is common and important for the Deaf Community. “The lack of a sense of belonging and identity that many deaf people experience comes from feelings of marginalization within the hearing world.” The author of the article presents a study where “semistructured interviews with 11 pupils were videotaped and transcribed. All the pupils were educated for the majority of their time with hearing peers, with exposure to Signed Supported English (SSE) at school, but all their parents were hearing.” The study shows a variety of answers from students. According to one student, "she talked about being teased about her deafness.” Some pupils said that they “like to be around with hearing peers at school but also enjoy being with a small deaf group.”
