According to Georg Simmel, specialization is a differentiating factor which provides characteristic-differentiation for personalities/characteristics of specific human beings. The specialization talked about by Simmel is related to the functional capacities/capabilities of human beings in association with work done. The disadvantage of specialization highlighted by Simmel is that the level of dependency will get enhanced as there will have to be other individuals involved in completion of specialized work. However, Simmel describes city-life in the following manner: “With each crossing of the street, with the tempo and multiplicity of economic, occupational and social life, the city sets up a deep contrast with .small town and rural life with reference to the sensory foundations of psychic life” (p. 3).
