The War of 1812 was a significant war for the Americans because they defeat Britain which was the greatest naval power at that time. There were two main causes of the war. First cause was the attempts of the British Empire to restrict the trade of the United States and second was the impressments of the American seamen by the Royal Navy and also the desire of America to expand. It all started when Britain was fighting with France. Both the sides wanted to stop each other from getting hold of the supplies and therefore, they tried to block U.S. trade.
