This week’s reading of Superforecasting’s chapters 3 and 4 provided a different perspective on how people expect forecasting to occur. Several exciting take-aways from both chapters drew my interest and made the idea of superforecasting easier to comprehend. The three most important takeaways were the criticizing of forecasts, the fox and hedgehog model, and the false accusation of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction. A person’s ability to forecast is a mysterious gift bestowed upon birth that allows them to analyze information and think critically to deliver predictions (Tetlock & Gardner, 2015). It is debated that some can gain the same abilities through years of education and reading newspaper articles. Either way, a forecaster can be criticized based on the depth of projected information.
