The judiciary was sought to be kept immune from politics through the notion of judicial independence. This idea was a new one to the Founding Fathers, as it was not a mechanism in any of the countries before. The Founding Fathers were goaded by the notion of separation of powers and checks and balances and given so, they felt that an independent judiciary was the best way to check the power of the Congress and the President. One way in which this independence is sought to be maintained is the life time tenure of the judges who shall continue to serve under good behavior. They can be remove from office only if impeached and convicted by the Senate and the House of Representatives.
