Participant observation method which is also known as ethnographic research can be explained when a sociologist is able to become a part of the group in which they are working for collecting the data and also understand some of the social phenomenon or the basic problem. Participant observation basically means that the researcher is working to play two separate roles at the same very time. Most of the times, the members of the group are aware of the observer. The weaknesses of participant observation are that it is very time-consuming where the researchers have to spend months and years for working in the same study.
