The Texas Legislature is the law-making body of the state government in Texas. It has two parts or chambers, a 31-member Senate and 150 member House of Representatives. The Texas Legislature passes new laws and makes alterations in the existing laws, sets tax rates and controls the budget of the state, and also provides limited oversight of local government and other branches of the government.
