Q For this discussion, please research a culture of your choosing and find traditions and beliefs that are different from that which you've practiced. For example, many people in China find the practice of drinking milk and eating cheese repulsive. Some cultures reject the usage of utensils and prefer to eat with their hands as it symbolizes a spiritual connection with the food they consume (food traditions are actually some of my favorite to examine). Once you have chosen a cultural tradition you find intriguing, please describe your initial reaction to reading about this foreign culture's practice. In some instances, there may be feelings of uneasiness or even disgust, depending on the cultural tradition. These reactions are all normal and typically felt by many when seeing practices that differ from what we're used to - this is a bit of culture shock. However, to practice cultural relativism, further examine the cultural tradition you've found and describe how this practice is important from the culture's perspective. Remember, make the familiar strange: place yourself in a culture different from your own. How difficult was this for you to do? Here is a helpful link for researching different cultures.
