In these, he discusses his feelings about life in the early Roman Empire, including the vitality of Rome itself and his attitude towards some of the politicians that he encounters. Compare and contrast his feelings about Roman Empire with those of his near contemporaries Virgil and Juvenal, whom we have also read.
