Every living thing: plants, animals, human beings, bacteria (good and bad), even cancer cells all need iron to survive and grow. Animals and humans need iron to make hemoglobin, which delivers oxygen to the body. Humans also need iron to make myoglobin in muscles. Therefore consuming the right amount of Iron is essential. Introduction of Iron Iron is a mineral that is required for our bodies to function properly. Most of the iron in our body is found in the blood as hemoglobin, which is a protein used to carry oxygen to the body's tissues. All together hemoglobin and myoglobin are responsible for carrying and storing oxygen in our body so that cells can produce energy. Iron also helps remove carbon dioxide. Our body absorbs about 10% of iron from the food we eat.
