One of the most challenging and profound early Greek pre-Socratic philosophers is Parmenides of Elea. He composed a didactic poem in the form of a spiritual revelation that dealt with metaphysical and cosmic concerns (Stekeler-Weithofer, 2015). It starts with an allegorical prologue “proem” that describes his voyage to the Halls of Night, where he is greeted by a goddess who reveals the truth in two halves, known as the Path of Truth and the Path of Opinion.
