M9d Alliances, Mergers and Acquisitions

Q Strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions are established strategic options to assist organizations in achieving growth and other corporate-level strategic objectives. But they don’t always work out. For this discussion here is what I would like you to do: • Read and review Chapter 9 of the Rothaermel text, along with the M9 Content Guide. • First, create a post that identifies some of the major problems that organizations face with strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions and your analysis as to why you believe they are problems. • Next, in responses to your classmates, work to develop steps you would recommend in order to minimize or eliminate major problems inherent to strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions. Discussion Instructions Please post a response of at least 250 words and respond to the postings of at least two of your classmates with a minimum of 100 words. My hope is that our discussions would mimic those that would take place in an actual classroom. When posting your thoughts, you want to encourage feedback and involve your classmates as much as possible. In the end, we want to be responding and feeding off each others postings. If you use a source, be sure to discuss it in your own voice. Make sure to cite correctly and use quotation marks when necessary to ensure you do not violate Academic Integrity. Please refrain from sharing unsubstantiated personal opinions not based upon fact and/or experience. For assistance on finding reputable sources review Research and Library Tips. For further explanation on how you are graded please review the Discussion Rubric.

An organization can face problems with strategic alliances like difficulty of organizational members to adjust with each other while working in a collaborative manner. This is because there can be mergers in which organizational members of one organization can find it difficult to adjust with the ways of working of the organizational members of the other organization. Moreover, there can be ego issues developed between the organizational members of both the organizations in a merger. In case of acquisitions, there can be the acquiring organization trying to dominate the ways of working and overall operations of the organizational members of the acquired organization.
