Q Time to get back on the track! (Links to an external site.) We are at the half way point of this 18 week course. Time to check in and see if you are moving any faster than you did the first go around. SO the assignment is the same, you will just need to include the numbers from the first go around. SO you will have 12 numbers to report. This way we can see if you are walking faster and jogging/running faster. We will also check your heart rates, you may not be moving much faster, but if your heart rate is slower then that is an improvement! This is a two part assignment that doesn't need to be done at the same time unless you feel up to it. :) First, take your heart rate before you start, then record the time it takes you to complete one lap around the Merced College track at the stadium or a track at any High School while walking, then take your heart rate at the end of the lap. Write down your Heart Rate before you start, the time it takes to walk the lap and then the heart rate after. Second, do it all again while jogging or if you're ready running. The goal is to move faster for the second lap. You will need to report all 12 numbers to me by 11:59 pm Monday. *I realize the track at Merced College is currently closed due to COVID, but many of the high school tracks are open. If you have a difficult time finding an open track, you can walk and then jog a 1/4 (.25) of a mile using an app on your phone, a fit bit or smart watch. It will be the same distance as 1 lap around a track. Some apps I recommend: Map My Run, Nike Run Club. *If possible, get on the same track you used the first time, or the same route.
