Q Evaluating Quantitative Research As you discovered through this week's Learning Resources, a large amount of information is contained within a quantitative research report. Furthermore, you should use specific criterion to evaluate the methods, validity, and reliability of quantitative research studies. After reviewing this week’s resources, consider the following: • • What should you be looking for when reading quantitative studies to judge their worth in the literature? • What might you find while reading a quantitative study that would raise a “red flag” about the quality of the methods used or the validity of the study? • How can you screen for bias in a research study? • What ethical considerations are specifically relevant with quantitative research? By Day 4 Post three different criterion that you believe are the most important for evaluating a quantitative research study. Describe how you would go about applying this criterion while reviewing the research literature. Then explain how your criteria relate to the ethical considerations relevant to quantitative research. Be sure to refer to this week’s resources to support your response. By Day 7 Read a selection of other students’ postings. As you read other responses, note those to which you would like to respond with questions, comments, and/or support. Respond to two (or more) other students’ postings in any of the following ways: • Provide feedback. • Ask a question. • Share an insight. • Offer an opinion. • Make a suggestion. • Note a similarity or difference to your posting. Return to the Discussion forum and read responses given to you by other students. Reflect upon what you learned and/or any insights you gained.
