Empedocles of Acragas is a prominent pre-Socratic philosopher who have made significant contributions in the genre of cosmogonic philosophy which revolves around the theory of the four classical elements namely air, water, earth and fire. Empedocles propounded the belief that while air works as a separate substance, the air, water and earth mingles and gets separate under the binding of love and strife. Moreover, Empedocles also believed that speed of light is finite and mass can be conserved through chemical reactions. Empedocles’s four element theory lived long and Empedocles was also the first person who proposed the theory of life in earth.
