Drug Tolerance- week 3- Drugs and Society
Q Delineate the various types of drug tolerance. Are they the same? What are their significant differences, and why is tolerance an important consideration in understanding drug use, especially continuing, compulsive use?
There are seven types of tolerance to substances which has a major impact over the drug abuse and addictive aspects. Acute tolerance can be explained as a process where our brain and the central nervous system can immediately mitigate the overall effects of the substance. Nicotine can be considered as the best example which creates acute tolerance and also increases the tolerance for the entire day for the smokers. Behavioral tolerance is when the person is able to adjust with the appearance, mannerisms to the overall mask of their use of drugs. Dispositional tolerance is when the brain is not able to dispose the drugs and it helps in speeding the overall metabolism levels within the body.
