For me art is a medium to bring out our emotions and therefore, I don’t believe that we need knowledge of the contextual background of a piece and the artist’s intention to understand that piece. It is true that every viewer interpret same painting differently based on their own experiences. Fr example, let’s consider Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream. A person who is going low on personal life and is unable to express their inner feeling can see this man as their inner voice screaming. Other who cannot thing n such depth and maybe having a bad day in office might see that man being frustrated from outside noise and shouting.
