Q Community Praxis Submissions The purpose of this assignment is to make connections between what you are learning in Ethnic Studies 10, our community, and the real world. Race and Racism matter in the United States, whether we want to admit it or not. For some of us, it is more prominent. For others, it fades to the back. You will earn 75 points for each of the Community Praxis assignments. The goals are: (1) You participate in something outside of class and in your community; (2) You intentionally think about Ethnic Studies 10 when you are doing this activity; (3) You make connections between what we learn in this class and your experience. You may pick from any of the following activities (and more not listed) to complete your Community Praxis assignments: • Activity ideas: o Attend an activity (in-person or online) o Engage in a cultural activity/experience o Read an essay or reflection on culture o Write a new poem or blog o Talk to an elder who imparts wisdom on you related to culture and race o Attend a cultural event in your family o Explore a museum o Take a critical look at images in online platforms or blogs o Participate in a march or rally o Explore an online resource that supports community liberation and social justice o Volunteer at a local non-profit o And so much more Your submission should be a clearly written paper that answers the following questions: • What was the activity or event? • When did you participate in this event or experience? • Why did you select this as one of your four Ethnic Studies Community Praxis Submissions? • Describe the significance or other details about the activity or event. • What did you learn from this activity or event? • How does this activity or event connect to lessons you've learned in our class?
