Q Here are the directions from the assignment sheet for this part of the assignment: Find the job you will apply to. This should be in the form of a job ad that you find on an individual company website, job search site such as Indeed, your major’s program page, UNO’s Career Center, etc. A longer job ad will give you more to work from, but you can also conduct research on the company if there isn’t a lot of detail in the ad. Be sure to save the job ad when you find it! Do not just bookmark the webpage, as ads are removed frequently. Copy and paste it into a Word document or take a screen shot. It is very difficult for me to assess whether you are responding appropriately to the job ad if I can’t see it! Annotate the job ad. Highlight key words that you will use and make notes about why you are qualified for the job and how you will craft your cover letter and resume. (Just highlighting is not enough. I need to see the connections you are starting to make in your mind translated into writing!) Finally, write a brief explanation (at least 200 words) in the form of a memo (see chapter 7 in the textbook or even just Google correct memo formatting!) to Dr. Ramert about why you chose this particular job to apply to. What makes you qualified? How do you plan to use the clues (key words, explicit requirements, implied values) from the job ad and your research to demonstrate in your cover letter and resume that you stand out from everyone else applying and are the best candidate for the job? Upon the submission of this part of the assignment, Dr. Ramert will confirm that the job you chose will work well for this assignment. If you can do all of the above, you should be fine. You are also welcome to email me with your ad to check in earlier, before all of the above is due! Submit your annotated job ad and explanation memo (as one document or two) by 11:59 p.m. (Central time) on the due date listed below. PreviousNext
