Do First (Wk 3) - Define Messiah

Q PRIOR to reading any of the materials for this week or any other resource material, explain what you have thought the term “messiah” means in your own words. THEN, after reading how the Catholic Church uses the term "messiah" as a term for Jesus (in CCC Part One, Section 2, Article 2 “I believe in Jesus Christ, the only Son of God.” sec. 426-445), discuss whether (and how) your own understanding of the term is similar or dissimilar to the Catholic Church’s use. [Use the "Previous" and "Next" buttons for moving through this CCC material.] Please don't just assume that what you've "always thought" is what this material says; notice that there are changes in the use of this term over time, and particularly changes between how Judaism originally used this term, and how Christians subsequently changed the use of that term. What NEW info do you learn in the reading?

I have heard the term ‘messiah’ on numerous occasions and every time it has been it has been used to indicate someone who will save all and guide all. I have always felt the word ‘messiah’ to be synonymous with savior and protector, and along with it, the messiah will be someone who has the abilities to act wisely, foresee consequences and guide accordingly, and can be that support that gives the weak the confidence to endure.
