Butler (2011) argues that gender is not being performed as in order to be performed gender must exist from the very beginning. She claims that gender is rather “performative” as people and their behaviors are catalysts of creating gender. She claims a very controversial concept that gender is not there from the beginning and nobody is born with a gender, rather people and their behaviors creates the idea of gender. When it has been said that gender is performative, it is being conveyed that there are certain norms in the society that people try to fit in and in order to do that they try to adapt the socially distinguished behaviors for a gender.
