The history of Total quality management can be traced back to the 1920s. At that time, statistical theory was used to measure the quality of product. The whole idea was initially based on inspection which was followed by the quality control. Then came the total quality management which led to business excellence. Total Quality Management as a concept came to existence in the year 1980s-1990s. When western companies saw Japan’s success, they also tried to implement the same ideas which focused on quality, techniques and most importantly focus on the customer and growth of the employees.
