Written Response 3_Art of the Last 25 Years

Q instruction for Written response 3: This week's module focuses on Postmodernism and re-caps on some of what we've already read about regarding post WWII transformations in the art world. In his essay, art historian Paul Wood writes on page 16 that, "Nobody is happy with 'postmodernism'. We use the word in bad conscience, knowing it is not up to the job." In a short of essay of at least 400-500 words, select three works of art discussed in this module and explain how you think specific elements in these pieces relate to specific features of postmodern art. Your short essay should include at least three citations of course material (formatted in whichever citation format with which you are most familiar; no need for a separate works cited page, just include bibliographic info for all cited sources at the end of your response).

Postmodernist art, in its rawest form, can be seen as a diversion in the concept of art, which the artists believed need no restriction or concrete definition to gain formation. It was the wildest imagination of the mind and also the softest projection. It required no criteria for fitting in or no "criteria for judging an artwork's quality" (Week 3 Resources). Greenberg discusses how the previous phase, modernism, intended to focus on the "process of inversion" and created art that was "perceptions" of the world (Wood, p 15).
