Identify and thoroughly explain why the selected research approach would be an appropriate method to answer the Research Question. Research questions should not be close-ended. Here are more insights about Research Questions: A research question is the fundamental core of a research project, study, or review of the literature. It focuses the study, determines the methodology, and guides all strategies of inquiry and reporting (McMillan, & Schumacher, 2001). In Module Four, students will be required to develop and write a Research Question using the Topic Statement and the Problem Statement as the foundation for their question. A Research Question is a statement that identifies the topic to be studied. A research question guides and centers your research. A strong research question should be narrow and not broad-based. One of the primary questions a potential researcher should ask is “Is the timing right for this question to be answered”? The reason for this question is to help the researcher determine if the topic is currently relevant, or, perhaps, becoming obsolete because there has been far too much research attention devoted to the specific topic. Also, before writing the question, the researcher must answer questions such as the following to determine if his/her time and efforts will be valued: • Is the topic worth investigating? • Can the proposed research contribute knowledge and value to the field? • Is the research question a new spin on an old idea, or does it solve a problem? • Is the research question researchable within the given time frame and location? • What information is needed? Characteristics of a good research question: • The question is feasible. • The question is clear. • The question is significant. • The question is ethical. • The question is not close-ended. • The question does not include many questions in one.
