The documentary Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise is like a gateway to the life of Angelou, filled with all the highs and lows of her life through capturing all that is closely related to her life and sums up as her characteristics and accomplishments. She was an important icon of the black history and her life’s story as a black girl living in poverty and most importantly being raped, which made her silent for years and this gave her the time to read and read about everything she could lay her hands on, establishing the foundation for the lady who was to become an iconic person in the history of America. I was inspired by her autobiography that describes her early years of struggle and overcoming racism and all the hurt that she went through, emerging into this powerful woman who could think and make the world think, as she could speak of things that would connect all.
