Q Read the article titled, "The Problem of False Balance When Reporting on Science". Then, discuss the following: Are there issues that should be presented as having only one side? Should media groups focus on 3+ sides? Discuss the implications of how persuaders choose how to represent the number of sides.
Q It cannot be understated how important media affect how we interact with information and the world. Consider for yourself how feeling, history and expectations differ between media. Select two different media items, and compare how you react differently to each (remember, "media" does not necessarily mean electronic). Draw conclusions about the effect of a medium on the ability for a message to persuade you. Use the video clips in this week's learning resources to help think through this more deeply.
