Q Choose two of the three discussion topics for this week's discussion. Be sure to support each of your responses with references (including peer replies) and for full credit you'll need to reply to more than the minimum two peer threads in addition to your own two initial topic responses. Topic 1: Trust and Privacy One of the most visible and contentious issues today is privacy on the internet. We have seen examples of how private and potentially harmful information has been collected and subsequent released. We know that some consumers are so concerned with privacy that they are reluctant to do business on the net. Read/Watch/Listen: Esther Dyson Video: https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?p=esther+Dyson+Privacy+On+the+Internet&fr=yhs-invalid#id=1&vid=6c539b1a00cf32f94bb8e1ece8abebc8&action=view Based on your reading, the videos, and your own perspective regarding the topic of privacy on the internet, react to the following questions. Topic 1 Prompt: Who owns a customer's information? Who should profit from it? How would that work? Topic 2: Regulation and Legislation Over time, data collection has become increasingly standard, and many customers don't even realize the amount of information available to companies. There have been two primary responses to the proliferation of data collection. One is self-regulation by companies through transparency and policies. The other is through legislation such which began around 1980. Name one example of self-regulation via a company policy or one of legislation used to protect consumer privacy. Be sure to support your response with references and clear connections to the policy/legislation and consumer privacy. Topic 3: The privacy dilemma Refer back to this week's reading on "Customer Privacy Concerns." Within the article, the authors highlight the dilemma for marketing online to customers by discussing the concerns customers have for privacy while also demanding high levels of personalization for their shopping experience. Describe at least two of the ways companies can build trust to help provide a sense of security and/or privacy to the customer while also developing a competitive and personal shopping experience. Post your initial thread by Saturday. Use at least two references and respond to at least two peer threads. Remember two is the minimum, and >2 quality peer responses and references for initial threads and peer responses receives maximum credit.
