Week 15 Discussion 14
Q What advantages do district elections have over "at large" elections as it relates to black politics?
How might a city council voted by district have impacted the political response to the police killing of Alfred Olango?
Relating to the Black Politics, there are various advantages of the district election over “at-large” elections. In district election, the city is divided into various districts and one member from each district will be representing the specific district. One voter can only vote to one candidate from their particular district. Whereas on the other hand, at-large elections will combine the whole city into one, in which members from various areas will be there for the election and people will vote for just one candidate from the whole city.
