Week 14 Class Discussion

Q Class Discussion What Have We Learned? For our final discussion, we are going to address the way in which climate change relates to other issues of social and economic justice that we have discussed in this course. Directions Please answer at least two of the following questions: 1. 1. Does climate change violate any rights named in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights? Does it potentially violate any rights in the Bill of Rights? Does thinking about this question help explain American politics around climate change? 2. Does our earlier consideration of structural racism and critical race theory say anything about climate change and the individuals who are being impacted most by climate change? 3. Does our earlier consideration of cultural humility shed any light on reactions to climate change? 4. Consider climate change in the context of the discussions of systems theory and Marxism in Week 4. Do either of these views help in understanding the causes or effects of climate change? And, we’ll say goodbye for now! ________________________________________ Discussion Protocol: Your discussion response should fully address the discussion prompt and be supported by materials from the course and reading requirements. 1) I do believe that climate change does violate article 2 in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. Article 2 states everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, without distinction of any kind, such as religion, race, color, language, etc. As mentioned in the coursework Native Americans have religious ties to their land and if their land is being destroyed by climate change and with the help of some laws it is also destroying their religion. I do not believe that climate change does potentially violate any rights in the Bill of Rights, amendment 4 may possibly be violated.
