Q 1. Do you agree that the U.S. military detention center at Guantanamo Bay (a/k/a Gitmo) should be closed? Why or why not? 2. When formulating your response, please consider the U.S.'s definition of the "war on terror" (also discussed in Ch. 8) and what that means with regard to the individuals taken int custody by the U.S. military and house at Gitmo. 3. Specifically, please analyze the status of those individuals at Gitmo that are being held as "enemy combatants" and discuss how that status differs from the usual prisoner of war status accorded to most taken into custody by sovereign countries during a war. 4. Finally, please discuss the implications of keeping the facility open or closing it? What would happen to the 166 prisoner's currently being held? What happens if the U.S. continues indefinite detention without trial? What effect, if any, has the alleged use of torture on those held at Gitmo had on American ideals and values.
