Inherit the Wind, both as a movie and a play, intended to be much more than the historical account of the Tennessee v. John Scopes’ case or even the constitutionality of the Butler Act. However, to look at it from the legal and political angles, the context of the Inherit the Wind had important messages to convey. When Mr. Scopes was reprimanded for teaching the theory of evolution in his class, it was done on the basis that it was unlawful to teach evolution and refuted the beliefs religion enhanced and preached.
