Alexander Hamilton, in the Federalist Papers, asserted that the Supreme Court would be the least dangerous branch of the Government. His assertion stemmed from the premise that having neither the power of the sword nor of the purse, the Court can do little more than merely judge. Consequently, he assumed that those judgments would remain legal ones and not really deal with matters of power politics. It cannot be said that he was wholly wrong at that point of time because this was largely the intention of the Founding Fathers of how the Supreme Court should be in reality. However, down the ages, time changed and so did the role and the stature of the Supreme Court.
