A persona identifies and represents a fictional individual that has a created story to help characterize data; the persona is based in real-life, so it acts as a representative for actual people. It’s a created narrative that “emphasizes details of the person’s personality and context that will affect their use of the product we’re documenting—and of our documentation.” (Hart, 2016). A persona takes away the generalization and stereotyping that writing for an audience creates.In the podcast interview, Dr. Guiseppe Getto points out that to create an accurate persona, data has to be researched carefully. A useful persona is more detailed, it identifies representative trends, the pain points as a user, the outliers discovered during the research phase, and it also helps to prevent stereotyping.
