There are many reasons a helper might find that their client is meeting them with resistance during the therapeutic process. One of these reasons might be that the client lacks the ability to meet the demands of the process perhaps as the result of overreaching goals. The client might not understand the process or what is being asked of them or perhaps they are in a debilitating state which is preventing their success. The client might also be resisting because of an emotion. Perhaps the client is afraid of truly opening up or finds opening up to the helper to be awkward. Likewise, the helper themself might be unknowingly contributing to resistance from the client causing this awkwardness or fear.
