Q Discussions Description The discussion threads will be used in Units 1 through 8. The threads will cover the referenced supplemental material incorporated into each chapter, via provided Internet links. Postings should not summarize the material, but should deal with how to apply the material in practice. The posting should consist of no less than 250 words and should include at least one outside, i.e., from a library database search, APA formatted reference at the end of the post. Initial posts are due on Wednesday before 11:59 p.m.CT (Central Time). After posting your answers, begin making two (2) or more replies to other students' posts. Your responses should ask a pertinent question, contribute significantly to your classmate’s posting and foster further discussion in order to receive the full points per response (up to 2). Response postings have the same requirements for length and outside references as original postings. To make a knowledgeable posting, it would be a good idea to review the supplemental material before writing your response. Responses are due before 11:59 p.m.on Sunday. Grading Rubric ________________________________________ Case Study, Research Analysis, and Final Exam Description Case Studies (25 points each) – Each unit and chapter contains case studies. Detailed instructions for assigned case studies have been provided for each unit. The cases are intended to provide you with the opportunity to apply material from the chapters similarly to what you would do in the workplace. In this way, you can gain experience through simulating the problem solving experience without the potential cost of being wrong in real life. Your answers should be typed, double-spaced, and submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. Research Analysis (25 points each)– Each unit and chapter contains examples of research related to the content contained in the chapter. Instructions on how to analyze the assigned research example are provided separately in the course shell. This exercise is intended to provide you with the opportunity to interpret research content for the purpose of application in the workplace. In this way, you can gain experience through simulating the problem solving experience without the potential cost of being wrong in real life. Your analyses should be typed, double-spaced, and submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. Final Exam – There will be a final exam, consisting of three case analyses, to be taken by 11:59 p.m. Sunday of Unit 8. The exam will be open book, open notes and is worth 200 points. Grading Rubric Skill Assessed Excellent Case Study & Research Analysis 23-25 points Final Exam 184-200 Above Average Case Study & Research Analysis 20-22 points Final Exam 160-183 Meets Expectations Case Study & Research Analysis 17-19 points Final Exam 136-159 Below Expectations Case Study & Research Analysis 0-16 points Final Exam 0-135 Interpretation and Critical Analysis The response skillfully interprets and analyzes case (or research) in an insightful, original manner. The write up is edited to summarize the answer via a provided analytic framework and integration with required exercise elements. The response sufficiently interprets and analyzes the case (or research) in adequate ways, though may lack originality and insight. Answers are longer because they are not edited as clearly and not reviewed as carefully. The response interprets and analyzes the case (or research) in a predictable manner, summarizing ideas, rather than suggesting insights. The response neither interprets nor analyzes case information (or research results and application). The write up is too long, since it is not as summarized. Focus The responses provided tightly focus on key case ideas or themes (or research elements). The response sufficiently focuses on a key textual idea or theme (or research elements). The response sufficiently focuses on key textual ideas or themes (or research elements) but may wander from focus. The response fails to focus on key case ideas or themes (or theory related to research or related assignment elements). Development with use of adequate support (text & outside sources) The responses are extremely well developed, using clear, applicable case examples closely linked to their interpretation (or to theory interpretation related to the research). Quotations and other matter conform to APA formatting requirements. The response is sufficiently developed using case examples that are linked to its interpretations (or to theory interpretation related to the research), though it may lack sufficient development. Quotations conform to APA format requirements. The response is underdeveloped and contains insufficient examples from the case (or research theory) that are not clearly linked to its interpretation. Quotations do not conform to APA format requirements. The response lacks development and examples. It contains no quotations. Technical Response is clearly written with strong style and conforms to conventions of standard written English. Response is adequately written and conforms to conventions of standard written English. Response contains multiple errors not conforming to conventions of standard written English. Response does not conform to the conventions of standard written English. ________________________________________ Intervention Design Paper Description In Unit 7, all students will complete a paper in which they completely design an intervention for their present organization (or a previous organization for students not presently employed). The paper should be a minimum of 10-15 pages in length (excluding the cover sheet and bibliography pages). This paper must identify a problem, state a goal, include how metrics, assessment and feedback would be handled, and cover the intervention (change process) from start to finish. The paper will be written in APA format. It needs a sufficient number of sources, which should be sources not covered in the course (i.e., not the textbook). Wikipedia and web sites are not acceptable sources. Using them as sources will affect your grade unfavorably. The paper will be double-spaced, typed using Courier New font (12 point), with one-inch margins. The paper will contain a title page, an outline, and a bibliography. The paper will be developed in stages, with each stage having its own due date. • The topic and thesis statement is due by the end of Unit 2, Sunday, 11:59 p.m. CT. • The outline of the paper is due by the end of Unit 3, Sunday, 11:59 p.m. CT. • A bibliography or list of journal articles (evidence of research progress) is due by the end of Unit 4, Sunday, 11:59 p.m. CT. • A rough draft for my review is due by the end of Unit 6, Sunday, 11:59 p.m. CT. • The final paper is due no later than Wednesday of Unit 7, at 11:59 p.m. CT. Grading Rubric Criteria Points Topic & thesis statement submitted on time. Due Unit 2 6 Paper outline submitted complete and on time. Outline done using first (major), second (section), and third (paragraph) level headings, as will be used in the paper. Due Unit 3 6 Bibliography and journal article list submitted on time. Due Unit 4 16 Rough draft submitted for review & feedback on time. Due Unit 6 16 Sub-Total: Development Phase 44 Final draft: Due Unit 7 Sources from peer-reviewed journals (and other credible journals); quality/depth of research. 44 APA style used properly (citations, headings, etc.); paper formatted with first, second, and third level headings. 16 Corrections to final draft based on feedback to rough draft. 16 Grammar, spelling, mechanics. 19 Logical development of the paper; transitions; writing quality. 61 Sub-Total: Final Draft 156 Total 200
