John Cheever in his story “The Enormous Radio” explained the matter of privacy and how important it is in urban or suburban dwellers through the shrill of the voice of a radio. The radio is symbolic here to explain the state of the mind of the characters and the mere interference in the radio speaker can make people’s lives so miserable. The interference and the subject of privacy are well illustrated with the surroundings. The radio speaker started behaving very oddly and got intermingled with the other sounds.
