Stein Discussion

Q Write one discussion post (250 words approx.) and one reply post (about 100 words) on one of the following topics (due before 11:59PM on Sunday, 9/20): - does it make sense to think of Tender Buttons as poetry? - is Tender Buttons a dry and abstract application of the principles of painting to writing? Or does it generate an emotional response? - write a Stein-inspired "still life" of your own (you may send this to me directly if you prefer) - What are the pleasures of Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven's poetry?

“Tender Buttons” by Gertrude Stein is a small poem that many critics think is not worthy of being called a poem. I do not know whether I am the right person to judge that way but to me it is definitely a poem. Poems are “spontaneous flow of emotions” which I can pretty well find in this one and so I believe, despite not having any rhythmic structure or format, this is still a nice example of poetry. The poet here has expressed his thoughts very nicely and the rest is left to the imagination of the readers which makes it a bit open-ended.
