Special Populations Discussion

Special Populations Discussion

Q Special populations, as noted in the lecture, is a very broad topic. For this discussion students are to find a behavioral health related educational resource to share related to a special population of the students choice ( excluding already shared materials within the course). Examples could be: a news article about increased mental health disorders in children's 3-5 years old; a website for rural/farmer mental health support; a research article about the treatment effectiveness of DBT on personality disorders. For your post this module: Identify what special population you opted to explore, describe why you chose to explore this particular resource and provide some highlights of what you learned from the resource. For your response, this module: Address one of these questions in your reply to one student's post. ~How does this highlight of information relate to the content you have learned so far in class? ~How could this resource be helpful to you now or in the future? ~What would you like to know more about this particular population? **NOTE** Try and help the whole class have a reply to each post within the discussion by replying to a post that does not yet have a response.

The special population that I chose to explore is the IPV victims within the United States. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is also known as domestic violence, and suicide and self-harm are prevalent among many IPV victims. Brown & Seals (2019) found in their studies that “Intimate partner problems were identified in 1,327 (26%) of all suicide cases where circumstances were known and intimate partner violence in 575 (43%) cases identified as having intimate partner problems.” It shows that people who suffer from domestic violence tend to show a higher degree of suicidal tendencies.
