Q Prompt #2 Please be sure to answer all parts of the questions. 1. Where are you all writing from? I'm in Taylor Mill, KY! :) 2. How do you feel about sharing your work with others, particularly work that is not finished? Do you usually have someone review your writing before you turn it in, or do you just submit it? 3. Do you think rough drafts and peer review are really necessary to the improvement of a piece of writing? You can be honest :) 4. Describe some of your writing "rituals." For example, I like to write at night, I like to have smell-good candles lit, I always make a written outline first, and I usually listen to the TV at low volume for background noise. 5. From the Week 2: Persuasive Narrative module, watch the short video called "Tone, Mood, and Setting." Give at least five examples of words from the short story, "Wizard Crystal" that help set the tone of the story. How would you describe the mood of this story? What is the setting? What values are represented in the text? What do you believe the overall message of this story is? Who is the target audience? How do you know? Respond to the same set of questions in regard to our other short story, "Moment of Truth." 6. Our current assignment asks you to tell a true story in a creative way. Discussing elements of narrative as they are used in fiction, elements like tone, mood, or setting, can help us study what elements we can carry over to nonfiction to make a story more interesting. Characterization is another of these narrative elements. Imagine yourself as a character in a story, but as you truly are. Describe yourself as you would to someone who cannot see you, your reader. What is your age, appearance, identity, environment, education, beliefs, values, ambitions, goals, fears, talents, emotions, perception of the world, perception others have of you, etc? Which parts of this description will be most relevant to your readers? 7. Briefly brainstorm the story you want to tell & analyze for the Persuasive Narrative essay. Note: there are two stories that I would like you to avoid telling for this assignment: the time you asked your parents for a pet, or the time you asked your parents for a car. I have just read so many of those essays, I need something fresh! Consider the following questions as you do: What type of argument occurred (from Chapter 1 of everything's an argument)? How did you use ethos, pathos, logos, or some combination of those appeals and how? Were you successful in your persuasive attempt? What would you have done differently?
