Strengths By including other brands under the Disney Company name, such as Pixar, ESPN, Lucasfilm, and Marvel, Disney has become a mainstay in both current and future entertainment. In 2016, Disney was named the world’s most powerful brand by London-based Brand Finance. This was due to the overwhelming popularity of the film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which accrued more than $2 billion in box office revenue around the world. With the movie's success, toys related to the film also became a major seller generating more than $700 million. However the company's greatest revenue remains it’s theme parks. Each member of the theme park cast must undergo specific training required by Disney. In 2019, pre-pandemic, theme parks represented Disney’s greatest revenue center, accounting for 26% of the company's overall performance (Nunan, 2020). Each employee must complete both common purpose training along with job specific training before occupying positions within the park, resulting in a highly enriched and highly trained team of employees. Unfortunately, with the implementation of COVID-19 mitigation efforts, the theme parks have resigned to cutting 28,000 employees in an effort to sustain park operations during a forced reduction in park occupancy. This decision is part of the business mindset which has ensured Disney’s enduring and consistent financial profits for several years.
