Self-regulation is both behavioral and biological ability to “control responses within the self” (Thomson, and Jaque). If a person can regulate oneself, a person will be able to manage novel events for which they need to have control over their temperament and personality traits. A person who has self-regulation can check his or her emotions, resist impulsive behavior, and enhance one’s mood, and rebuilt confidence (Thomson, and Jaque). Procrastination often causes a problem in self-regulation as the tendency to delay work restricts a person’s ability to control oneself (McWhorter).
