Q Envision this: You have graduated from your counseling program, you are working in your ideal counseling position, and your professional license/certificate is hanging on the wall in your office. Imagining this scenario, consider the following questions: • Where are you? What kind of setting is it? • What kind of counseling are you doing? What types of interventions are you using? • Who are your clients? What is it about these clients that makes working with them so satisfying for you? Now, think about a setting in which you would not want to work, as well as a client population that you might not want to serve. Then, consider the following: • What kind of setting is it? What is it about this setting that seems difficult for you to work within? • What about the clients? What traits do they have that you think might interfere with your ability to work with them effectively? • In the next few weeks or months, is there anything that you could do to gain exposure to these types of clients to ensure that you do not rule them out precipitately? To create your journal entry, click on "Create Journal Entry" at the top of this page. On the next screen, title your entry "Reflective Journal 2", and type your response in the box provided. You may copy/paste text from a Word document into the box, if you prefer.

I graduated from Lamar University with my master’s degree in School Counseling and I have met all the requirements to be a Certified School Counselor in the state of Texas. I am working at my current high school, which is Title 1 with a high percentage of English language learners. I love working with high school students and it brings me such joy, when they say, “you are a counselor, now you can help me deal with my issues.” I will be able to help my students with social/emotional issues, mental health, what classes they should take and college and career choices. I will practice small group counseling, have ono-on-one student planning and motivation groups.
