When Inglehart tries to trace the difference in political cultural attitudes across societies, he does so, on the basis of two axes which pertains to the economic variables and the cultural variables. The interplay of both these factors and the importance of each can be gauged from the case of the Germans who supposedly exhibited tremendous pride in their political institutions. This can be considered to be a cultural factor of the way in which nationalism or patriotism might be nurtured among the Germans since childhood; however, “one of the few aspects of their society in which they did express their pride was the way in which their economic system was working” (Inglehart, 1988).
