T.S. Eliot’s poem “The Love songs of J. Alfred Prufrock” is considered to be one of his modernist poems that have grabbed the attention of many critics over the years. When he was confronted about the creation of this poem, he had remarked that the character of Prufrock was a blend of his own expression and dramatic creation. There are various reasons that can be taken into consideration in order to call this an excellent example of modernist poetry. The list includes objective correlative, free verse, irregular rhyming, fragmentation and most importantly, the projection of urban life. At the core of this poem lies the struggles, loneliness and the agonies of a modern man. Many of the Critics felt that Prufrock had inconsistently which was evident from his thoughts and expressions but they were the result of the complexities of the modern urban life.
