Q Instructions Background In this course, the Final Project is a scenario in which you must knowledgeably and artfully communicate to an audience for a specific purpose. In the first milestone (from Module 3), you selected from one of three scenarios - cover letter, memo, or proposal - and then you conducted a brief analysis of your audience based on your scenario selection. Your Final Project Milestone 2 assignment emphasizes the importance that you be able to articulate, both written and orally, the intent of your communication in order to succeed in a professional environment. In this second milestone you will submit a summary of your intended outcome or impact for your written component of the Final Project: the cover letter, memo, or proposal you selected in Milestone 1. You will submit this in written form (250 words max), which will later be converted to a verbal pitch (25-35 seconds) for the Final Project. This milestone helps you prepare for your Final Project by seeing firsthand the importance of forethought and planning in professional communication. Additionally, it prepares you for various real-world professional situations in which you’ll have to quickly verbalize your goal or position.

Q Instructions To complete your Milestone 2 assignment, please submit the following: 1. Written pitch: Write your short pitch, up to 250 words, to help you explain your intent and appeal to someone in a short amount of time (pretend you just met someone on an elevator, and that person happens to be someone who will be reading your written submission soon, like a hiring manager or business colleague - how would you briefly explain your work and goals, if asked?) 2. Explanation of pitch: Why did you write your pitch this way? How would this pitch, if delivered verbally, help you further communicate your message? What tone would you use, and which areas of the pitch would you highlight using your tone and other verbal cues? Write a short paragraph or two (five to seven sentences) with your explanation. 3. Non-verbal intent: As we have explored in this module, non-verbal cues can be a major indicator in verbal and face-to-face encounters. List five non-verbal cues you can use to help “sell” your message, and five non-verbal cues you will practice avoiding so you don’t dissuade the receiver. Your submission should be one to two pages, double-spaced, and in 12-point Times New Roman font. You should include a minimum of three sources to support your decisions.
