As a POC, I can definitely relate to this topic and experience. I believe that children are very impressionable thus are constantly picking-up messages in their surroundings/environment whether they are aware of it or not. When a child is brought up in a society that predominantly displays light-skinned figures across all forms of media, it will adversely alter their perception. In the short-film, "A Girl Like Me", the children were conditioned to value the western standards of beauty and was shown when asked to pick between playing with the light and dark-skinned dolls.
