Q Follow the instructions below to complete the assignment. See the Course Schedule for the due date. 1. Read the Text Analysis Essay Instructions [PDF] and preview the Assignment Rubric [PDF]. 2. Locate and select two (2) potential texts to analyze for the Text Analysis Essay, using the information you learned from the module and library resources. a. The texts must be current, published within the past three months. If you cannot find a date, you cannot use it. b. Opinion or persuasive articles are better to analyze for this essay. You will analyze the article itself, not the broader topic, so you must be able to remain objective and level-headed in your analysis. c. Make sure the texts interest you. Do not choose short news articles or topics in today’s headlines that will be obsolete within a few days or weeks. You should review multiple sources before narrowing to ones you will want to write an entire paper about. The topic you choose for this essay may be the start of your semester-long research project, so choose wisely. 3. Create a document using the Document Formatting Guidelines provided in the Introduction Module. Title the document “Text Analysis Essay: Prewriting.” 4. For each of your two texts: a. Write an MLA-style works cited entry for each of the two texts you locate and select. For information on creating MLA-style works cited entries, see: i. MLA Formatting and Style Guide from the Purdue OWL website ii. The MLA video iii. If you use a citation-generating website, be sure that it contains all the correct information. You may need to fix capitalization, italics, etc. b. Underneath each MLA-style works cited entry: i. Briefly summarize the text. ii. Explain why you chose it and why you think it would be a good text to use for this assignment. iii. Explain what aspect of the writing (word choice, tone, organization, use of examples, etc.) most stands out to you and any challenges you might encounter when analyzing the text. 5. After listing and explaining both sources, write a 70-100 word paragraph explaining which of the two sources you are leaning toward and why.
