Locke’s main aim in the second treatise is to establish that an absolute monarchy Is an illegitimate form of government, having insufficient right to coerce people to obey it. The governmental theory defended by Sir Robert Filmer, which Locke attacked, was that the king has a right to rule his subjects the same way a father demands obedience from his children. It depicts that in a divinely ordained request, the king has unlimited rights; the government has no requirement consent of those subject to forcefully holding property, whereas the subjects have no revolutionary rights, chapter xix, section 234.
